My Journey to Friendship Peak: A Thrilling Adventure in the Himalayas
As an avid trekker, I’ve had the opportunity to explore various terrains, from rolling hills to jagged mountains, but none have compared to the exhilarating challenge that was the Friendship Peak Trek. Nestled in the Kullu region of Himachal Pradesh, Friendship Peak stands tall at an elevation of 5289 meters, offering some of the most breathtaking views of the Pir Panjal Range and the neighboring Dhauladhar Range.

My Journey to the Summit
The 7-day long trek begins in the vibrant town of
Manali, which provides a refreshing start before the real adventure begins. On
the first day, I was able to take in some sightseeing around Manali, visiting
spots like the Hadimba Temple and Vashist Kund. It was a great way to
acclimatize myself and prepare for the physical challenge ahead.
The next day, we drove from Manali to Dhundi,
the starting point of the trek. The journey through the scenic landscape had me
excited and nervous in equal measure. From Dhundi, we trekked towards Bakarthach
— the first major stop. The trail wound through lush oak forests
and verdant meadows, occasionally giving way to massive moraines
and glaciers. Even though the trek was still manageable, I could already sense
the change in altitude, and the views were becoming more and more spectacular.
On Day 3, we pushed forward to Lady Leg, an area known for its vast moraine fields. It was here that we learned some vital mountaineering techniques, like ice-axe usage, crampon application, and the crucial art of load ferrying. The team ensured we were well-prepared for the rigorous challenges ahead.

The true magic began as we set our sights on the Summit Camp.
The trek to this point tested our physical endurance but also taught us to
adapt to the unique challenges that come with high-altitude climbing. Our trek
leaders were a constant source of encouragement, providing expert guidance and
ensuring that we remained well acclimatized to avoid altitude sickness.
On Summit Day, everything came together. Starting in
the dead of night, our climb was lit only by headlamps as we ascended icy paths
under the moonlit sky. The night was chilly, and the air grew thinner, but the
thrill of the midnight climb was indescribable. As we neared the summit, the
sheer expanse of the Himalayas unfolded before us — a panoramic view
that was nothing short of awe-inspiring.
What Makes
Friendship Peak So Special?
The Friendship Peak Expedition stands out for a few reasons.
First, the summit is not just about the destination; it’s about the journey.
The trail takes you through varied landscapes, from green meadows
to snow-covered
paths, each offering its own unique beauty. The changing panoramas
made each day of the trek feel like a new adventure.
The physical challenge was significant, but with the guidance of
certified trek
leaders, the sense of camaraderie among fellow trekkers, and
the breathtaking views of peaks like Deo Tibba, Indrasan, and Shitidhar, the
entire experience was immensely rewarding. There were moments when exhaustion
set in, but the beauty around us kept us moving.
